STEP 1: Identifying Global Issue
Do you believe that this picture is real?
Sadly, this picture was made by AI.

What is Misinformation and Disinformation?
MISINFORMATION
Misinformation is false or inaccurate information that can affect a person's understanding of the world. It is shared without the publisher knowing that the information is incorrect.
DISINFORMATION
Disinformation is false information that is intentionally misleading. It is shared by a publisher who knows the information is untrue but spreads it anyway.

Based on data from World Economic Growth in 2023, Indonesia ranked 18th on the list of countries with the most significant threat of posing false information. Data from Kementrian Komunikasi dan Digital also showed 2000 hoaxes and fake news are shared in 2024. The largest category found was fraud or hoax news, with as many as 890 pieces of content.

A strong majority, 64% in Germany and 89% in Indonesia, globally agree AI is making it easier to generate very realistic fake news stories and images.

IB PROFILES
We are thinkers when we learn how to use AI generators from our resources.
We are knowledgeable when we get more information from experts about our topic.
We are communicators when we discuss our exhibition’s progress during mentor meeting.
ATL SKILLS
We use thinking skills when we think about how to find solutions to determine misinformation
and disinformation.
We use research skills when we collect information by interviewing our experts.
We use self-management skills when we manage our time to accomplish our work on time.
Student's Questions
- What are the types of misinformation and disinformation?
- How can AI influence our lives?
- What can we do to solve misinformation and disinformation using AI?
STEP 2: Determining Time Frame
Project Timeline

Learning Goals and Success Criteria
We can differentiate between misinformation and disinformation.
We understand AI technology can influence various aspects of our lives.
We apply artificial intelligence systems in a safe, trustworthy, and ethical way. |
STEP 3: Engaging Support from Learning Community
1st Resources:
Callula Hoegeng
From Kak Callula, we learned how AI could help influence advertising work.

2nd Resources:
Bapak Dr. Ir. Firman Kurniawan S.
With Pak Firman, we learned the connection of AI with misinformation and disinformation.

3rd Resources:
A I C I
In AICI, we learned how AI enhances robot capabilities.

4th Resources:
Ibu Irma Handayani
From Ibu Irma, we learned the government system to tackle misinformation and disinformation.

Going Further
Yuval Noah Harari
To enrich our knowlegde, we also discussed the book Nexus by Yuval Noah Harari. From the interview video, we learned the impact of AI becoming a tool and an agent capable of independent decision-making and innovation.

STEP 4: Organizing Learning

SOCIAL EXPERIMENT
Survey Inquiries
- How far do people recognize and understand AI technologies?
- How well are people skilled and knowledgeable in identifying AI?
Most of our respondents admit to knowing about AI. However, they have various understandings when identifying text, images, expressions, and audio generated by AI.
Analysis & Conclusion
Based on the results, most respondents correctly answered because they have good observation skills and knowledge when determining AI technology.
STEP 5: Monitoring Exhibition

Using the 10 reasons why, we encourage ourselves to actively participate and engage with the exhibition journey. One example is the issue encourages us to become international minded when exploring what others think about AI’s impact.

Another example, we also take action that involves the school learning community.
STEP 6: Sharing The Exhibition
Our first action is to take action from ourselves. We show understanding by making an infographic about our topic.

Then, we compile the information and share our knowledge through a booklet.

Inspired by the David Beckham video campaign, we also want to show the positive way of disinformation by creating a video using one of the AI generators. The model for this video is Ramya.
