Goal
I’ve always been interested in biology and sculpting. I’ve always had some interest in becoming a doctor, but due to my difficulty in understanding without any visual assistance, I never made it my number one career option. Using this chance I could better educate myself on human biology through art, more specifically through sculpture. This is also my opportunity to increase my skill and technique in sculpting. Therefore my first learning goal will be to enhance my skills in sculpting such as how to become better at different techniques, how to create better, more complicated sculptures, and overall become better at sculpting. My second learning goal is to enhance my knowledge on the human organs such as the heart, lungs, kidneys, and stomach. To achieve this goal I will be creating a sculpture of these organs so I could create a tool for younger children that are going through a similar situation I had gone through where visual tools would help me understand school subjects better.
Product Goal
The goal of my product is to create a sculpture of the human organs, the specific organs I will be sculpting will be the lungs, the heart, the stomach, and the kidney. The purpose of this product, for me, is to enhance my skills in shaping clay. I wish to be able to create smooth surfaces of clay without any cracks. For the educational field, I hope my product could be of use to better understand human anatomy.
Research
Process
The process of my research started with gathering various amount of sources. For my primary source, I interviewed experts on both the biology and sculpting/arts side of my project. My secondary sources consisted of reliable articles, journals, and research pieces. I made sure the information was reliable by using the C.A.A.R.D.S method.
