From 2017 to 2018, Al Jabr High School is doing a project called Creativity Action Service. At that time, our high school was not yet authorized as part of IB Continuum, we were still using Cambridge and National Curriculum at that time, however we still apply the importance of service to our students.

The following are some of the projects done by the students from 2017 to 2018. The articles were written by the students in out previous blog.

Their projects were divided into 3 categories

Eco-Agriculture

Organic Waste Treatment

Recycling Project

Students learn how to plant , grow and nurture – by regularly watering and fertilizing –  vegetables properly.

Our school’s cafeteria has a lot of food waste which can still be used for other purposes. One group of students is processing the fruit waste into organic pesticide and cleaner. Another group is processing  food waste from lunch into fish pellets

Transparent beverage bottles can be recycled into other plastic product and we see students throwing away such bottles everyday, therefore we are collecting those bottles to be sold to a collector who will then recycled the bottles.

Making Fish Pellets Using Leftover Food

Fish pellets are often made from various ingredients. Some even has nutrients for the fishes. Surprisingly, we can make our own fish pellets using leftover food as our main ingredient. To find out if it will work we tried it out today.

We collected some leftover foods from the school cafeteria and had them washed. It may sound disgusting at first, washing away the oils and spices from someone’s leftovers. However, if you do it together, with a friend perhaps, it has its own pleasure and can bring joy and laughter. Don’t believe me? Just try it!

CAS Agriculture Grade 12

On our first month of CAS (Community and service), we were introduced to the basics of agriculture. Pak Udin, the schools house keeping staff and our supervisor,  started us off with an easy job. Our first job was to remove the Chinese cabbage plant so that new seeds can be plant. We then replanted the Chinese cabbage plant in a new ground. This was our job for the next fortnight. Not only Chinese cabbage, we also remove and replanted water spinach. Pak Udin then gave us more job by also watering the plants after we’re done removing and replanted them.

Every month, with the help of Grade 11 students, we harvest the plants from our garden. The result from the harvest will be sold in the Al-Jabr Community. We started collecting the ripe plants, washed them. We even packed them into portions.

Action Kelas 11 (2017-2018)

Volunteer in Museum Transportasi

On Wednesday 15th of May 2018 I Went to “Museum Transportasi” located in TMII for a CAS project. My first impression of the museum was that i had lived it’s glory days. However, I was determined to help anyway I can. My English skills was very useful for the museum because i could translate the information from Bahasa Indonesia to English. This could help the museum because they usually have foreign tourists asking about the display but unfortunately the English was quite dated. So the process of translating was taking pictures of existing information boards and translate directly from Bahasa Indonesia. Few of the boards already have an English translation, so we only had to correct the grammar. it took us about three days to do the translating. In the end, it was a great experience interning and i learned a lot from it.
