Doughnut’s Economy is a ring to guide and help us build a better future, especially a water as resouce for everyone. This is they way for us to address the global challenges that everyone is experiencing right now, used in many cities in central and western europe such as Brussels, Amsterdam, and many more. In our project, there are two left falling short on water pollution, which are water and health. These things cause chemical pollution.
QS: Al-Baqarah ayat 275:
“Dan janganlah kamu berbuat kerusakan di bumi setelah (diciptakan) dengan baik. Berdoalah kepada-Nya dengan rasa takut dan penuh harap. Sesungguhnya rahmat Allah sangat dekat kepada orang yang berbuat kebaikan.”
QS: Al-Waqi’ah ayat 68 & 69:
“Pernahkah kamu memperhatikan air yang kamu minum?” “Kamukah yang menurunkannya
dari awan ataukah Kami yang menurunkan?”

Water is such a precious resource for everyone. In fact, every living thing on our planet needs it to survive! That’s why it’s super-important we keep Earth’s water clean and safe. Sadly though, the world’s water sources – from water bodies – are in trouble because of pollution. Let’s find out more…
Over the past century particularly, Earth’s water sources around the world have been polluted by all kinds of waste. Chemicals from factories, sewage, household waste, and lots of unmanaged rubbish, like plastic bags, packaging, bottles, and even lost fishing equipment all find their way into our waterways. According to Natgeokids.com, an estimated 300-400 million tonnes of waste is thought to pollute our rivers and seas every year.
That’s why the students choose the topic “Water is a Source for Everyone” because we do believe in a world where every single person has access to clean and safe water. For that, the students want to know how technology advance can support human needs of water.
PYPx is never a one-person job. In this step, the students set the timeline and deadlines to help visualize the planning process and the end goal – that way, the students can stay motivated and focused.
So here we use measurables deadlines into our timeline to track the progress!
To get a deeper understanding about the topic, students were asked to do some research about types of water. We discussed what have they learned from the articles during mentor meeting at school and we came up with this 3 types of water.
Grey water is waste water used by household activities, such as disposal of kitchen, laundry, floor drain from bathrooms, washing machines, and so on. However, grey water does not come into direct contact with dirt and is not wastewater from the toilet.
Black water is the wastewater from bathrooms and toilets that contains faecal matter and urine. t also contains of dangerous chemical waste.
Before we find out more about how technology and scientific advance supports human needs of water, we invited the experts that are directly linked to the issue that we are inquiring about to get more knowledge and perspective.
PAM Jaya is more focused on drinking water and daily use water.
There are 7 steps of recycling process:
Strain the big trashes, strain the small trashes, pre-sedimentation, coagulant & floaculant, sedimentation, filtration, disinfection.
Different with PAM Jaya, PAL Jaya focused on processing waste water(grey water and black water). Later, the water can be reuse for cleaning the river, watering plants, washing cars, and infrastructures.
Soap is one of the causes of waste water (grey water).
The soap that is not good for the environment contains Surfaktan, SLS , and paraben ingredients.
Discuss how to do mini PAM independently.
There are 32 respondents in this survey. The respondents of this survey are Al Jabr Community. The data stated that 50% of water polluton is caused by littering from humans. This means our hypothesis is correct and we can do something as our action to reduce the water pollution so we can provide and protect our water resources.
To prove whether the technology can support human needs of water or not, we are experimenting on different sources of water to know how recycling process happens if we do it by our own and to know whether we can reuse it again or not.
Alhamdulillah the experiment was succeed! We can see that there is the difference between pH level before and after the recycling process. However, we still can’t guarantee that we can reuse the water for drinking or not since there are a lot of parameter for clean and safe drinking water. But we can use it for watering plants. filling the pond, or washing cars!
First, we find background problem and article from newspaper. Then, we brainstorm our ideas into one central idea which about “Technology and Scientific Advance Innovation Supports Human Needs of Water”
Third, we classify the types of water and decide to focus on analyzing grey water.
After that, we come up with the solution that can people do as Al Jabr Community to reduce the waste water and water pollution around us.
Second, we gather the information more from the guest speakers and fieldtrip, and also do a reflection.
Fourth, we do an experiment by making MINI PAM and see how how the recycling water process happens.
Finally, we share our knowledge to others by promoting 10 solutions through: Participation and Advocacy by making personal action and big action.
Alhamdulillah, we have almost done! The students want to raise people’s awareness about how to reduce water pollution and save our water resources.
The students believe that everyone has a right to access clean and safe water.
This book is telling about how important water is and solutions to save the water from water pollution.
This book contains activities that children can do after reading or listening to the storytelling from Air Sahabatku. This book aims to engage the readers and reflect the new knowledge they have learn from Air Sahabatku book.
This book is telling about what is grey water and black water. Also how are they affect our water resources.
We also create interactive board game for entertaining the children while learning about water.
We decided to share our books to other students and schools with hope that they can learn too the importance of saving our water resources. So yeah, here are a glimpse of our journey while doing the storytelling to other students and schools!
Not only to Al Jabr community and schools, the students also want to raise people’s awareness about how to reduce water pollution to a wider community in Car Free Day around South Jakarta (Participation)
The panel presentation is not the end of our journey, but it really determines the results of our assessment. We present our result and analysis in the panel session with the head of school, school principal, PYP coordinator, grade 5 teachers, mentors and our parents. Nervousness, emotion, happy are a mixed up feelings.
The panel session was run smoothly, we were able to speak fluently, answered questions well, and finished on time. We hope that the knowledge gained and the actions we have taken will be good for us, mentors, parents and the community. Aamiin
