Today, we are surrounded by Ultra Processed Foods (UPF) like soft drinks, packaged snacks, cookies and biscuits, candies, ready-to-eat or ready-to-heat meals, and instant noodles. All of which are easily accessible to all.
UPFs are rich in calories, sugars, unhealthy fats and sodium, and contributing to the rise in chronical diseases. Unfortunately, trends show that today, the consumption of UPFs has replaced the consumption of natural foods. Besides that, it is very difficult to stop eating UPF. That’s why the students choose the topic “Chemical Additives in Food” because we want to have healthier habit and we do believe every child has the right to have a healthy diet and life longer. For that, we need action now!
PYPx is never a one-person job. In this step, the students set the timeline and deadlines to help visualize the planning process and the end goal – that way, the students can stay motivated and focused.
So here we use measurables deadlines into our timeline to track the progress!
We learn how to do a scientific experiment to prove the bad impact of sugar to our body.
There are 93 respondents in this survey. The respondents of this survey are Al Jabr Community. The data stated that 50% of water polluton is caused by littering from humans. This means our hypothesis is correct and we can do something as our action to reduce the water pollution so we can provide and protect our water resources.
To prove that too much sugar is bad for our health, we are doing “Yeast Experiment” to see what will happen to our guts
Alhamdulillah the experiment was succeed! We can see that there is the difference between the 1st jar, 2nd jar, and 3rd jar. It turns out, the jar with sugar produced so many foam (that represents gases) and the yeast (that represents bad bacteria) was growing up.
First, we find background problem and article from newspaper. Then, we brainstorm our ideas into one central idea which about “Technology and Scientific Advance Innovation Supports Human Needs of Water”
Third, we classify the types of water and decide to focus on analyzing grey water.
After that, we come up with the solution that can people do as Al Jabr Community to reduce the waste water and water pollution around us.
Second, we gather the information more from the guest speakers and fieldtrip, and also do a reflection.
Fourth, we do an experiment by making “Yeast Experiment” to prove that too much sugar is bad for our health.
Finally, we share our knowledge to others by promoting 10 solutions through: Participation and Advocacy by making personal action and big action.
This book is telling about how important water is and solutions to save the water from water pollution.

The panel presentation is not the end of our journey, but it really determines the results of our assessment. We present our result and analysis in the panel session with the head of school, school principal, PYP coordinator, grade 5 teachers, mentors and our parents. Nervousness, emotion, happy are a mixed up feelings.
The panel session was run smoothly, we were able to speak fluently, answered questions well, and finished on time. We hope that the knowledge gained and the actions we have taken will be good for us, mentors, parents and the community. Aamiin
